
Mernda Centre is a mixed-use commercial development by Bcentral Constructions, located at 2 Lombardy Drive, Mernda VIC, within Melbourne’s northern growth corridor in the City of Whittlesea. The building’s commercial environment and high-use operational requirements called for a practical and compliant waste management solution that integrates reliably into the building’s day-to-day infrastructure.
Elephants Foot Chute Solutions was engaged to supply and install a waste chute system tailored to the building’s layout and operational requirements. The system services one chute pipe level, with one fire-rated self-closing waste intake door installed at the operational level and upgraded with a medium temperature smoke seal to provide enhanced fire and smoke containment compliance suited to a commercial environment. A custom chute support bracket was also fabricated and installed to support the chute at that level.
The discharge room is located at ground level, fitted with a minor offset discharge configuration to suit the selected bin size. An odour relief vent and flushing spray system was installed at the top of the chute shaft, discharging through to open air at a maximum of 3,000mm above the head of the chute to support airflow management, odour control, and internal chute hygiene.
The completed installation provides Bcentral Constructions with a durable and compliant waste infrastructure solution suited to the operational demands of Mernda Centre, supporting efficient building operations within a mixed-use commercial environment in Melbourne’s northern growth corridor.
