Waste Chute Discharge Upgrade

Peninsula Apartments is a high-density residential complex located at 5 Clifford Street, Surfers Paradise QLD, positioned directly across from the beach in the heart of Surfers Paradise on Queensland’s Gold Coast. The Body Corporate for Peninsula engaged Elephants Foot Chute Solutions to upgrade the existing waste chute discharge infrastructure, replacing ageing equipment and reconfiguring the discharge arrangement to better suit the building’s current operational requirements.

Elephants Foot Chute Solutions carried out targeted works to the existing waste chute system, focused on the removal of the existing JJ Richards compactor equipment and the supply and installation of new discharge configurations across two discharge points. The waste room was re-measured prior to design, ensuring the new discharge configurations were accurately tailored to suit the available space and bin arrangement within the waste room.

The first discharge point received a manual galvanised steel Type A discharge door with fusible link, replacing the existing JJ Richards equipment at that location. The Type A configuration provides a straightforward and reliable manual cut-off solution at the base of the chute, with the fusible link ensuring the chute is automatically sealed in the event of a fire.

The second discharge point received an electronic galvanised steel splitter discharge with fusible link, also replacing existing JJ Richards equipment. The splitter discharge configuration allows waste to be directed to the appropriate bin from a single chute discharge point, improving waste room flexibility and supporting more organised waste stream management within the building.

The completed upgrade provides the Body Corporate for Peninsula with modernised, compliant discharge infrastructure suited to the operational demands of a high-density beachside residential complex, supporting improved waste room functionality and reliable long-term performance for residents and building management.
