Waterview and Edge Apartments is a multi‑residential development located within the Edgewater precinct in Maribyrnong, Melbourne. Managed by Connect Facilities, the development supports high‑density apartment living within a well‑established riverside community and requires reliable waste infrastructure to support day‑to‑day building operations.
Elephants Foot Chute Solutions completed targeted upgrades to the existing waste chute infrastructure, improving the reliability and safety of the discharge system while maintaining efficient waste transfer between levels. The works were carried out within an operational residential building, requiring careful planning and safe work methodologies to minimise disruption for residents.
The project involved the removal and replacement of outdated chute discharge offsets and the installation of new discharge configurations designed to suit 1100L MGB waste bins. These upgrades improve waste handling efficiency within the building’s waste room while ensuring reliable daily operation of the chute system.
Additional safety improvements were incorporated as part of the upgrade works, including the installation of non‑combustible cut‑off doors with fusible links to enhance fire safety performance at the discharge points. Plastic strip curtains were also installed at the bottom discharge sections to improve containment and operational safety within the waste handling area.
All works were completed in accordance with Victorian compliance requirements and included the implementation of safe work methodologies to ensure the upgrade could be carried out effectively within an occupied building environment.
The completed upgrade provides the Owners Corporation with a safer, more reliable waste chute discharge system that supports efficient waste room operations while improving the long‑term performance of the building’s waste infrastructure.
