Castle Residences is a landmark luxury mixed-use development by J Hutchinson, located at 116 Bathurst Street in the heart of the Sydney CBD. The development’s prominent CBD location, high residential occupancy across multiple levels, and mixed-use nature required both a waste chute system and a dedicated linen chute system to support the efficient operational demands of the building.
Elephants Foot Chute Solutions was engaged to supply and install a waste chute system and a linen chute system operating independently across the building. The two systems together service 31 chute pipe levels with intake doors across waste and linen streams, with both chutes running straight up and down throughout their respective shafts and discharging to basement level.
The waste chute system services 21 chute pipe levels across upper residential floors, with 21 fire-rated self-closing stainless steel waste intake doors installed across all operational levels. Twelve levels below the residential floors incorporate bypass configurations with no intake hoppers, and four additional access panels were installed at selected levels to support maintenance access throughout the shaft. The discharge room is located at basement 1, fitted with a linear compactor system configured to suit a 660L waste MGB.
The linen chute system services 10 chute pipe levels, with 10 fire-rated self-closing stainless steel linen intake doors installed across all operational levels and a bypass configuration at ground floor. The discharge room is located at basement 1 mezzanine, fitted with a Type A bottom discharge door configured to suit the selected linen trolley.
Vent and wash-down cleaning systems were installed at the top of both chute shafts, discharging through to roof level above to support airflow management, odour control, and internal chute hygiene throughout both systems.
The completed installation provides J Hutchinson with a durable, compliant, and operationally practical waste and linen infrastructure solution tailored to the scale and complexity of Castle Residences, supporting efficient building operations and reliable long-term performance in the heart of the Sydney CBD.
