Waste Chute System Installation

Silk One is a landmark mixed-use residential development by Tomkins Commercial and Industrial Builders, located at 825 Stanley Street, Woolloongabba QLD, directly opposite the iconic Gabba stadium approximately 1.5km from the Brisbane CBD. The development’s prominent inner-city location and high-density occupancy required a practical and compliant waste management solution capable of servicing multiple levels reliably, with integrated compaction equipment to support efficient waste room operations.

Elephants Foot Chute Solutions was engaged to supply and install a waste chute system tailored to the building’s vertical layout and occupancy requirements. The system services 20 chute pipe levels, with 15 fire-rated self-closing waste intake doors installed across operational levels and five bypass configurations incorporated across lower levels where intake access was not required. A chute offset was incorporated at level 2 to suit the building layout, and two additional access panels were installed at levels 3 and 5 to support maintenance access throughout the shaft.

The discharge room is located at ground level, fitted with a carousel compactor system configured to suit three 1,100L waste MGBs. The carousel configuration supports efficient bin rotation and compaction, reducing the frequency of bin changeovers and minimising manual handling for building management within a high-density mixed-use environment.

A vent and wash-down cleaning system was installed at the top of the chute shaft, discharging through to roof level to support airflow management, odour control, and internal chute hygiene throughout the full height of the shaft.

The completed installation provides Tomkins Commercial and Industrial Builders with a durable, compliant, and low-maintenance waste infrastructure solution suited to the scale and prominence of Silk One, supporting efficient building operations and reliable long-term performance within one of Brisbane’s most significant inner-city development precincts.
