Cala Dei is a boutique beachfront residential development by J Hutchinson, located at 144 Marine Parade, Coolangatta QLD, directly opposite Greenmount Beach in the southern Gold Coast’s most tightly held coastal precinct. The development’s premium beachfront setting and boutique scale required a practical and compliant waste management solution that performs reliably and integrates seamlessly into the building’s operational infrastructure.
Elephants Foot Chute Solutions was engaged to supply and install a waste chute system tailored to the building’s vertical layout and occupancy requirements. The system provides efficient waste transfer across 12 chute pipe levels, with 11 fire-rated self-closing waste intake doors installed across operational levels and a bypass configuration incorporated at level 1. Signage was fitted to each intake door to support correct use by residents. The chute runs straight up and down throughout the shaft, with the discharge room located at ground level.
A Type A bottom discharge door was installed at ground level, configured to suit a 2m3 bin, accommodating the waste output of a boutique multi-level residential building in a high-demand coastal environment. The large-format bin configuration supports efficient waste collection and reduces the frequency of bin changeovers for building management.
A vent and wash-down cleaning system was installed at roof terrace level, discharging through to roof level above to support airflow management, odour control, and internal chute hygiene throughout the full height of the shaft.
The completed installation provides J Hutchinson with a durable, compliant, and low-maintenance waste infrastructure solution tailored to the boutique character of Cala Dei, supporting efficient building operations and a premium residential experience for occupants directly opposite one of the southern Gold Coast’s most iconic beaches.
