High Street Preston is an 18-storey residential development by Kapitol Group, located at 6 High Street, Preston VIC, within Melbourne’s inner north. The development required a multi-stream waste management solution capable of servicing waste, recycling, and organics streams separately across multiple levels, supporting the building’s sustainability objectives and operational waste management requirements.
Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a triple chute system across 51 chute pipe levels, incorporating three dedicated chute shafts with 17 fire-rated self-closing waste intake doors, 17 recycling intake doors, and 17 organics intake doors installed across all operational levels. The discharge room is located at lower ground level, with minor offset discharge configurations installed for all three streams, configured to suit 1,100L MGBs for waste and recycling and a 240L MGB for organics.
An integrated single bin compactor system was installed for the waste stream to suit a 1,100L MGB, and a linear system was installed for the organics stream to suit a 240L MGB, supporting efficient bin management across all three waste streams at lower ground level. The discharge room acoustic specification required Embelton NRD isolation mounts to all ceiling-mounted equipment to manage structure-borne noise transmission within the building. Three odour relief vent and flushing spray systems were installed at the top of all three chute shafts to support airflow management, odour control, and internal chute hygiene.
The completed installation provides Kapitol Group with a durable, compliant, and sustainability-focused waste infrastructure solution suited to the scale and operational demands of High Street Preston, supporting efficient multi-stream waste handling and reliable long-term building performance within Melbourne’s inner north.
