
Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a fully automated Dual Chute System at 11 Gibbons Street, one of Redfern’s largest mixed-use developments. Spanning 17 residential levels, the system is designed to streamline waste and recycling management while enhancing operational safety and efficiency.
The project included 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes, linear track systems for both waste and recycling streams, and fire-rated hopper doors at every level. All systems were designed for zero-offset operation, ensuring smooth and reliable waste discharge directly into 1100L mobile garbage bins (MGBs).
Additional elements such as a washdown and ventilation system, plastic strip curtains, and clear door signage contributed to maintaining hygiene and minimising odours in this high-density vertical living environment.
By integrating automation through linear tracking and compaction, the building significantly reduced labour and handling time, while also improving recycling participation across all 17 floors. With 34 hopper doors in total, residents now benefit from easy-to-use, clearly labelled access points, enhancing both compliance and user experience.
