Stage 2 of The Banks development by Deicorp represents a significant enhancement to Rockdale’s urban landscape, delivering 266 modern apartments across Buildings A and B at the prominent Bay and Chapel Streets intersection. This carefully planned residential upgrade demanded an equally sophisticated waste management solution to serve its medium-density configuration.
Elephants Foot implemented five custom-designed waste chute systems throughout the development. Building A received three complete waste chute systems (A1-A3), each servicing twelve full levels from ground to level 11. These systems feature self-closing intake doors at every residential level, ensuring both safety and hygiene. Building B incorporated two slightly modified systems (B1-B2) to accommodate its ten and eleven-level configuration, including a strategic bypass hopper at ground level.
The technical implementation focused on three key elements: hygienic maintenance through roof-terminated vent and wash-down systems, efficient waste compaction using five linear compactor systems for 1100L mobile garbage bins, and clear resident guidance via standardized signage at all intake points.
This solution successfully addresses the dual challenges of space optimization in basement discharge areas and consistent waste flow management across 57 total chute levels. The systems’ design particularly shines in its adaptability – seamlessly serving both the 12-storey Building A and the slightly varied configuration of Building B while maintaining identical performance standards.
