Scape Kensington is a purpose‑built student accommodation development delivered by Infinity Constructions Group within Sydney’s university and education precinct. Designed to support high‑occupancy living, the building required a robust and compliant waste management solution capable of handling continuous daily use across multiple waste streams.
To meet these requirements, Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a comprehensive suite of high‑capacity waste and recycling chute systems tailored specifically for student accommodation environments, where durability, hygiene, and operational efficiency are critical.
The primary installation comprises a large‑scale dual chute system constructed from 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes, servicing levels Ground through to Level 17. Separate waste and recycling risers provide clear stream separation, supporting improved recycling outcomes while reducing contamination and misuse in a high‑traffic residential setting.
Fire‑rated, self‑closing waste and recycling intake doors are installed across all active levels, complete with smoke seal upgrades to enhance fire and smoke compartmentation. Clear signage at each intake supports correct system use and safe resident interaction.
At basement level, waste handling is managed through a combination of linear compactor and linear track systems, allowing efficient servicing of high‑volume waste and recycling streams while minimising manual handling. Additional bin handling equipment, including powered tugs and universal bin hitches, further supports safe and efficient operations.
In addition to general waste and recycling, the project incorporates a dedicated food waste chute system constructed from custom 410mm galvanised steel chute pipes. This system includes lockable intake doors, odour neutralisation equipment, and a carousel discharge system, providing a controlled solution for organic waste management within a student accommodation environment.
Multiple vent and wash‑down cleaning systems are installed at the top of each chute riser, supporting odour control, hygiene, and long‑term system performance. The completed installation delivers a highly specialised student accommodation waste management solution designed to meet the demands of high‑density, high‑turnover residential use.
