The Balaclava is a residential development delivered by Bcentral Constructions in Melbourne’s inner south‑east. Located within an established residential neighbourhood close to public transport and local services, the project required a reliable and space‑efficient waste solution suitable for medium‑density living.

To support daily resident use, Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a dual waste and recycling chute system designed to provide safe, hygienic, and compliant vertical waste transfer. The system services ground and upper levels while maintaining a compact footprint within the building core.

The installation incorporates 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes with dedicated waste and recycling streams. Fire‑rated, self‑closing intake doors are provided on each active level, allowing residents to dispose of waste and recyclables safely while maintaining fire and smoke separation between floors.

At the top of the system, dual vent and wash‑down cleaning systems deliver continuous airflow, odour control, and automated internal cleaning. These features support long‑term hygiene and reduce ongoing maintenance requirements.

At basement level, waste and recycling are discharged via minor offset bottom discharge units to suit the building layout and bin room configuration. The completed solution integrates seamlessly into the broader residential waste management system, supporting efficient servicing and long‑term operational performance.
