Located close to the CBD, defence facilities, and major public transport links, the development required a reliable and compliant waste management solution capable of supporting daily residential use across multiple buildings.

Elephants Foot supplied Chute Solutions and installed two independent waste chute systems, each designed to provide efficient vertical waste transfer while maintaining safety, hygiene, and long‑term operational performance. The systems service both the North and South buildings, supporting consistent waste handling across the broader development.

Each system incorporates 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes servicing eight levels per building. The straight‑through chute configuration eliminates offsets and transfer points, reducing the likelihood of blockages and simplifying ongoing maintenance in a high‑use residential environment.

Fire‑rated, self‑closing waste chute intake doors are installed on every active level, providing safe and intuitive access for residents while maintaining fire and smoke separation between floors. Clear signage at each intake supports correct use of the system and helps minimise contamination and misuse.

At the top of each chute, dedicated vent and wash‑down cleaning systems provide continuous airflow and automated internal cleaning. These systems assist with odour control, improve hygiene, and protect the internal condition of the chute over the life of the building.

At basement level, waste is discharged via Type A bottom discharge units into 1100L mobile garbage bins. This arrangement integrates seamlessly with the building’s residential waste management system, allowing building management to service each chute efficiently while minimising manual handling. The completed installation delivers a robust, low‑maintenance solution well suited to medium and high‑density residential living in Canberra.
