Nexus is a residential development delivered by Bayside Building Group in Sydney’s southern suburbs, supporting medium‑density living close to rail, retail, and essential local services. To support daily residential use and long‑term building performance, the project required a reliable and compliant waste management solution capable of handling consistent waste volumes while minimising blockages and maintenance issues.
Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a centralised waste chute system specifically designed for medium‑rise residential buildings. The system utilises 510mm LLDPE plastic chute pipes, selected for their smooth internal surface, durability, and ability to reduce friction, noise transfer, and blockages in high‑use residential environments.
The chute system services eight residential levels and incorporates fire‑rated, self‑closing intake doors on each floor. These self‑closing chute doors help maintain fire and smoke separation between levels while providing residents with a safe and easy point of waste disposal. Clear signage installed at each intake supports correct use and reduces contamination within the system.
To support hygiene and odour control, the chute is fitted with a vent and wash‑down cleaning system at the upper level. This system provides continuous airflow and automated internal cleaning, helping to control odours, maintain cleanliness, and protect the long‑term performance of the chute.
At ground level, waste is discharged into a carousel bin system (no compactor) designed to suit 240L mobile garbage bins. This waste discharge system allows bins to be rotated efficiently, improving collection access while reducing manual handling and congestion within the waste room.
