Kembla Street Residences Waste Chute System

Kembla Street Residences is a medium‑density residential development delivered by Insight Development Group within the Wollongong city centre. Located close to transport links, retail, and coastal employment hubs, the project required a reliable and space‑efficient waste management solution capable of supporting daily residential use while maintaining safety, hygiene, and long‑term operational performance.

To meet these requirements, Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a centralised waste chute system designed to provide efficient vertical waste transfer within a compact building footprint.

The system incorporates 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes servicing ground level through Level 5. A straight‑through chute configuration is combined with a medium mid‑level offset at ground level to suit the building layout while maintaining smooth waste flow and reducing the risk of blockages.

Fire‑rated, self‑closing waste chute intake doors are installed on Levels 1 to 5, with a bypass arrangement at ground level where no intake door is required. This configuration supports safe operation while maintaining compliance with fire and smoke separation requirements.

At the top of the chute, a dedicated odour relief vent and wash‑down cleaning system provides continuous airflow and automated internal cleaning. These features assist with odour control, improve hygiene, and protect the internal condition of the chute over the life of the building.

At basement level, waste is discharged via a Type A discharge system with a medium offset into a mobile garbage bin (bin size to be confirmed). This arrangement integrates seamlessly with the building’s residential waste management system, delivering a practical, low‑maintenance solution well suited to medium‑density residential living in Wollongong.
