The Standard is a medium‑density residential development delivered by Hamilton & Marino in Melbourne’s tightly held inner‑north precinct of Fitzroy. Located close to public transport, retail, and community amenities, the building required a practical internal services solution that would support daily operations while maintaining safety, compliance, and long‑term performance.

To meet these requirements, Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a purpose‑designed linen chute system tailored for residential use. The system provides a dedicated vertical transfer solution for internal linen handling, reducing manual handling, improving hygiene, and supporting efficient building management.

The installation features a 610mm galvanised steel chute servicing seven levels from Ground through to Level 6. The chute runs straight up and down, providing smooth internal transfer while minimising wear and reducing the potential for material build‑up over time.

Fire‑rated, self‑closing linen intake hopper doors were installed on every active level. Each door is designed to maintain fire and smoke separation between floors while ensuring safe, controlled operation for building occupants and staff. Clear signage at each intake supports consistent and correct system use throughout the building.

At the top of the chute, a fully integrated vent and wash‑down cleaning system provides airflow and automated internal cleaning. This helps control odours, maintain hygiene, and protect the long‑term performance of the chute in a residential setting.

At basement level, linen is discharged through a Type A bottom discharge system designed to suit a selected sorting bench and trolley configuration. This allows for safe, efficient handling within the linen room while supporting streamlined collection and processing.
