St Ives House Aged Care - Linen Chute System Installation

St Ives House is a residential aged care facility located at the corner of Mona Vale Road and Killeaton Street, St Ives NSW, set within one of Sydney’s well-established upper north shore communities. Delivered by DJ Thompson, the facility provides residential care accommodation designed to support the comfort, safety, and daily wellbeing of its residents within a purpose-built aged care environment.

Elephants Foot Chute Solutions was engaged to supply and install a linen chute system tailored to the operational requirements of a residential aged care setting. The system provides efficient linen transfer from upper levels to the basement collection area, reducing manual handling requirements for care and facilities staff and supporting hygienic linen management throughout the building.
The installation services two chute pipe levels across ground floor and level 1, with fire-rated self-closing linen intake doors installed at each level. Signage was fitted to each intake door to support correct use by staff. The chute runs vertically with a standard offset configuration, with the discharge room located at basement level.

A Type A bottom discharge door was installed at basement level, configured to suit the selected linen trolley and allow for safe and controlled collection of soiled linen at the discharge point. The discharge configuration supports a clean and organised basement linen collection area, minimising contact and handling requirements for laundry staff.

A vent and wash-down cleaning system was installed at level 1, discharging through to open air on the level above to support airflow management, odour control, and internal chute hygiene. The system ensures the chute shaft remains clean and ventilated throughout its operational life, reducing maintenance demands in an environment where hygiene standards are critical.

The completed installation provides DJ Thompson with a durable and compliant linen management infrastructure suited to the specific demands of a residential aged care facility, supporting efficient building operations and a safe, hygienic environment for residents and staff alike.
