Leigh Place ACF (House 1) is a residential aged care facility delivered by Richard Crookes Constructions in Sydney’s south‑west. Designed to support full‑time care operations, the facility required a waste and linen handling solution that prioritised hygiene, infection control, staff safety, and efficient daily servicing within a healthcare environment.
Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a purpose‑designed linen chute system tailored specifically for aged care use. The system incorporates 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes servicing ground level through to Level 2, providing a centralised and controlled method for transporting soiled linen while minimising manual handling by staff.
Fire rated, self‑closing linen intake doors are installed on each active level, ensuring safe operation while maintaining fire and smoke compartmentation in accordance with healthcare and building compliance requirements. Clear signage at each intake supports correct use and reduces the risk of cross‑contamination.
To support hygiene and odour control, the chute is fitted with a vent and wash‑down cleaning system at the upper level. This system provides airflow and automated internal cleaning, helping maintain cleanliness, control odours, and support infection control protocols within the facility.
At basement level, linen is discharged through a Type A bottom discharge system designed to suit a dedicated linen trolley. This configuration allows efficient collection and transport of linen while reducing manual handling and improving workflow for facility staff.
The completed aged care linen management solution provides a reliable, low‑maintenance system that supports hygiene, staff safety, and smooth day‑to‑day operations within a modern residential aged care environment.
