The IGLU Student Accommodation project at 407–415 King Street in Melbourne required a high capacity, fire rated waste and recycling solution capable of supporting continuous daily use in a high occupancy student living environment.

To meet these demands, Elephants Foot Chute Solutions delivered a fully engineered dual waste and recycling chute system designed for durability, hygiene, and long term performance. The system integrates fire rated intake doors, acoustic treatment, custom hanging frames, and high efficiency discharge equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation across all 18 levels of the building.

The installation features a high performance waste chute system and recycling chute system constructed from galvanised steel and fitted with Vibralag acoustic lining to minimise noise transfer between apartments. Each level includes fire rated, smoke sealed intake doors supported by custom hanging frames that maintain structural stability and airtight performance.

At the lower ground discharge room, waste is processed through a high efficiency carousel compactor system with a 2:1 compaction ratio, handling two 1100L mobile garbage bins. Recycling is discharged via a Type A bottom discharge system, allowing clean and safe transfer into 1100L bins without manual handling.

This integrated chute system improves hygiene, reduces blockages, and supports reliable waste collection for large student populations while meeting fire, acoustic, and operational compliance requirements.
