Elephants Foot Chute Solutions designed and installed a comprehensive waste and linen management solution for ICON’s IGLU Bondi Junction student accommodation. This 11-level, 197-room facility required specialised systems to serve its mixed-use spaces including an all-day restaurant, rooftop gym, and co-working zones while maintaining acoustic comfort for residents.
The solution features a eDiverter waste system constructed from 1.6mm galvanised steel, paired with a dedicated linen chute system for efficient laundry management. Both systems incorporate 25mm thick Thermotec NuWrap 5 acoustic insulation across all 22 chute sections to minimise operational noise in student living areas.
For waste management, nine fire-rated eDiverter hopper doors provide secure disposal points, complemented by nine matching linen chute doors across key levels. The design includes four bypass levels without intake doors where space constraints dictated alternative solutions.
Odour control is achieved through two dedicated venting systems with automatic flushing sprays, maintaining a maximum 3000mm vent run above chute heads. The ground floor discharge area features minor offset configurations for both waste and linen streams, with the waste system discharging to 660L garbage bins.
