
Delano is a high‑density residential development delivered by Ultra Building in Sydney’s Lower North Shore. Positioned within a major transport and mixed‑use precinct in Crows Nest, the project supports multi‑level apartment living and required a robust waste management solution capable of handling high daily resident volumes while maintaining safety, compliance, and long‑term operational performance.
To meet these requirements, Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed three independent waste chute systems across Buildings A, B, and C. Each system was designed to provide efficient vertical waste transfer while accommodating differing building layouts and discharge conditions.
The chute systems incorporate 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes servicing multiple residential levels within each building. Intake doors on all active levels are fire‑rated and self‑closing, with upgraded smoke seals installed to enhance fire and smoke separation performance in a high‑density environment.
Dedicated odour relief vent and wash‑down cleaning systems are installed at the top of each chute, providing continuous airflow and automated internal cleaning. These systems assist with odour control, improve hygiene, and help protect the internal condition of the chute over the life of the building.
At discharge level, waste is transferred via Type A bottom discharge systems with engineered minor and medium offsets to suit site constraints. Waste is discharged into 660L mobile garbage bins located within basement and podium‑level waste rooms, supporting efficient collections while minimising manual handling. The completed installation integrates seamlessly with the building’s residential waste management system, delivering a reliable, low‑maintenance solution well suited to high‑density apartment living in Sydney.
