Founders Lane Braddon - Multi Core Waste & Recycling Chute Infrastructure

Stages 3 and 4 at Founders Lane form part of a major mixed use development within the Braddon precinct of Canberra. Delivered by JWLAND, the project contributes to the ongoing transformation of the city centre by providing contemporary residential living within a vibrant urban environment while supporting high density occupancy and efficient building operations.

Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a large scale waste infrastructure system incorporating multiple dual 510mm galvanised steel waste and recycling chute systems across several building cores. The installation was designed to manage high daily waste volumes while supporting organised waste room operations and reducing manual handling requirements for building management.

Across the development, the system services 60 operational waste and recycling intake levels distributed across multiple lift cores. Fire‑rated self‑closing hopper doors were installed at each intake level to maintain compliance with Australian building standards and ensure safe operation within a high occupancy residential environment.

Each chute system operates as a straight vertical run to maintain consistent gravity waste flow and minimise maintenance requirements. Integrated vent and wash‑down cleaning systems were installed above the top service levels to support airflow management, odour control, and ongoing hygiene performance within the chute shafts.

Waste and recycling streams discharge to centralised waste rooms through Type A bottom discharge configurations designed to suit 1100L MGB bins. Additional waste management infrastructure including portable auger compactors and multi bin lifting equipment was installed to support efficient bin handling and waste processing within the building’s waste management areas.
