Heirloom is a medium‑density residential development delivered by Balmain & Co in Melbourne’s eastern suburb of Doncaster East. Located within an established suburban corridor close to retail and local services, the project required a practical and compliant waste management solution capable of supporting daily residential use while maintaining safety, hygiene, and long‑term performance.
Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a centralised eDiverter waste and recycling chute system designed to enable efficient separation of waste streams through a single vertical riser. This approach reduces space requirements while still supporting correct waste and recycling practices at the point of disposal.
The system incorporates 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes servicing five levels from ground to level four. Intake hoppers are installed on the upper residential levels, with bypass arrangements provided on the lower floors to suit the building layout and discharge configuration. This design ensures smooth vertical transfer while maintaining compliance and operational efficiency.
Fire‑rated, self‑closing intake hopper doors are installed on all active levels, providing safe operation and maintaining fire and smoke separation between floors. Clear signage at each intake supports correct system use and helps reduce contamination and blockages over time.
At the top of the chute, a dedicated vent and wash‑down cleaning system provides airflow and automated internal cleaning. This assists with odour control, hygiene, and long‑term system performance, particularly in a shared residential environment.
At basement level, waste and recycling are managed via an eDiverter base unit discharging into a 1100L mobile garbage bin. This configuration allows building management to efficiently handle both waste streams while minimising manual handling and maintaining a clean, safe waste room. The completed residential waste and recycling chute solution delivers a reliable, low‑maintenance system well suited to medium‑density apartment living.
