Duke Apartments is a medium‑density residential development delivered by Hamilton & Marino in Melbourne’s inner north. Located within a tightly held urban precinct close to transport, retail, and employment hubs, the project required a compact yet highly compliant waste management solution capable of supporting daily residential use while maximising space efficiency.
To meet these requirements, Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed an integrated eDiverter waste and recycling chute system. The system enables waste and recycling to be separated through a single chute riser, reducing building footprint requirements while maintaining high standards of safety, hygiene, and operational performance.
The system incorporates 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes servicing nine residential levels. Custom chute hanging frames were supplied and installed at each level to ensure precise alignment and long‑term structural stability within the building core.
Fire‑rated, self‑closing eDiverter intake doors are installed on every level, allowing residents to select the correct waste stream at the point of disposal. This design supports improved recycling outcomes while maintaining fire and smoke separation between floors.
At the top of the chute, a dedicated odour relief vent and wash‑down cleaning system provides continuous airflow and automated internal cleaning. This assists with odour control, improves hygiene, and protects long‑term system performance.
At ground level, the eDiverter system directs waste to a 660L mobile garbage bin and recycling to a 1100L bin via a compliant discharge arrangement. This configuration integrates seamlessly with the building’s residential waste management system, delivering a low‑maintenance, future‑ready solution well suited to medium‑density residential developments in inner‑city Melbourne.
