Stage 2 of Esperance Hope Island Retirement Living is a residential aged‑living development delivered by FDC Construction & Fitout within a coastal, master‑planned community at Hope Island. Designed to support both independent and assisted living, the project required a waste management solution that prioritised safety, accessibility, hygiene, and minimal manual handling for residents and operational staff.
To meet these requirements, Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a purpose‑designed eDiverter chute system suited to retirement and aged‑living environments. The system incorporates 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes servicing Levels 1 through to Level 7, providing a centralised and controlled waste disposal solution that supports ease of use and operational reliability.
Fire rated, self‑closing eDiverter intake doors are installed on each level, ensuring safe waste disposal while maintaining fire compartmentation and compliance with relevant building standards. The eDiverter configuration allows waste to be directed efficiently to the discharge point while reducing the need for excessive bin movements within the building.
At the upper level, an odour relief vent and flushing spray system provides airflow and internal chute cleaning, helping control odours, maintain hygiene, and support long‑term system performance. At ground level, waste is discharged via a minor offset to suit the eDiverter stream, allowing flexible bin placement and efficient collection within the discharge room.
The system also included the supply of a reusable slab penetration ring former to suit the 510mm chute, supporting accurate slab penetrations and improving installation efficiency during construction. The completed waste chute system provides a compliant, low‑maintenance solution that supports resident safety, hygiene, and efficient day‑to‑day operations within a high‑quality retirement living environment.
