
Awaken Residences is a 12-storey luxury residential development located at 275 Boundary Street, Coolangatta, within the Rainbow Bay precinct on Queensland’s southern Gold Coast. Designed by Cottee Parker Architects and constructed by McNab Constructions, the development comprises nine luxury whole-floor apartments and two food and beverage outlets, representing a premium addition to one of the Gold Coast’s most sought-after coastal communities.
Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed an eDiverter chute system suited to the operational demands of a high-end multi-residential tower. The eDiverter system enables both waste and recycling streams to be managed through a single chute line, with an automated diverter at the base directing material to the correct bin. This space-efficient solution is well suited to a luxury residential tower where shaft space is at a premium and waste room operations need to remain clean and organised.
The installation services 12 chute pipe levels spanning upper ground through to level 11, with 11 fire-rated self-closing eDiverter intake doors installed at upper ground and levels 2 through 11. A major chute offset was incorporated at lower ground level to route the chute through the wall to the discharge room, coordinated with the Elephants Foot works coordinator to ensure accurate installation. The discharge room is located at lower ground level.
The eDiverter discharge system was configured to suit large-format bulk bins, accommodating 2,000L and 1,500L waste bulk bins and 1,500L and 1,000L recycling bulk bins. This discharge configuration supports the high-volume waste output of a nine-apartment luxury tower with food and beverage tenancies, ensuring the waste room can operate efficiently without frequent bin changeovers.
Acoustic lagging was applied to the chute pipes throughout the shaft, using a 5kg/m2 acoustic barrier equivalent to Vibralag or Soundlag 4525C. This treatment reduces noise transmission through the building structure, maintaining the quiet and refined living environment expected within a premium residential development.
A vent and wash-down cleaning system was installed at level 11, discharging through to roof level above to support airflow management, odour control, and internal chute hygiene throughout the full height of the shaft.
The completed installation provides McNab Constructions with a compliant, low-maintenance, and high-performance waste management solution tailored to the specific demands of Awaken Residences, supporting efficient building operations and a premium residential experience for occupants.
