Positioned within a tightly held urban precinct close to transport, retail, and local services, the project required a reliable and compliant waste management solution capable of supporting daily residential use while maintaining safety, hygiene, and long‑term performance.

Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a fully integrated dual waste and recycling chute system designed to provide efficient vertical transfer and clear separation of waste streams at the point of disposal. This approach supports improved recycling outcomes while reducing the risk of contamination in a shared residential environment.

The system features 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes servicing seven levels from ground to level six. Intake hoppers are installed on all residential levels, with bypass arrangements at ground level to suit the building layout and discharge configuration. The straight‑through chute design minimises transfer points, helping reduce blockages and ongoing maintenance requirements.

Fire‑rated, self‑closing waste and recycling intake doors are installed on every active level, maintaining fire and smoke separation between floors while supporting safe, intuitive resident use. Clear signage at each intake assists residents in correctly separating waste streams, contributing to improved system performance over time.

At the top of each chute, dedicated vent and wash‑down cleaning systems provide airflow and automated internal cleaning. These systems help control odours, maintain hygiene, and protect the long‑term condition of the chute in a high‑use residential setting.

At basement level, waste and recycling are discharged via Type A bottom discharge units into 1100L mobile garbage bins. This configuration integrates seamlessly with the building’s residential waste management system, allowing building management to service both waste streams efficiently while minimising manual handling. The completed solution delivers a robust, low‑maintenance system well suited to medium‑density inner‑city living.
