Thompson’s Place is a residential development delivered by Espire Projects in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, providing medium‑density housing within an established suburban setting close to local services and public transport. To support daily resident use and long‑term building performance, the project required a compliant and reliable waste management solution capable of managing consistent residential waste volumes.
Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a fully integrated dual waste and recycling chute system designed for low to medium rise residential environments. The system incorporates 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes servicing ground level through to Level 2, providing smooth vertical waste transfer while reducing the risk of blockages and maintenance issues.
Separate fire rated, self‑closing intake doors are installed for both waste and recycling on each active level. This enables residents to correctly separate waste streams at the point of disposal while maintaining fire and smoke compartmentation in accordance with building compliance requirements. Clear separation supports improved recycling outcomes and consistent system use.
Odour relief venting and flushing spray systems are installed at the upper level to provide airflow and automated internal chute cleaning. These features help control odours, maintain hygiene, and protect long‑term system performance. At basement level, waste and recycling are discharged through minor offset discharge points into 1100L mobile garbage bins, allowing efficient bin placement and collection within a compact discharge room layout.
The system also incorporated reusable slab penetration ring formers supplied to suit the 510mm chute, supporting accurate slab penetrations and improving installation efficiency during construction. The completed waste chute system provides a low‑maintenance, future‑ready solution that improves recycling performance, reduces operational risk, and supports the ongoing performance of a high‑quality suburban residential development.
