Panorama Waste and Recycling Chute System

Panorama is a medium to high‑density residential development delivered by Maxcon Constructions in Melbourne’s eastern growth corridor of Box Hill. Located close to major transport links, retail centres, and health precincts, the building required a robust and scalable waste management solution capable of supporting high daily resident volumes while maintaining safety, compliance, and long‑term performance.

To meet these requirements, Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a fully integrated dual waste and recycling chute system designed specifically for high‑rise residential living. The system enables clear separation of waste and recyclable materials at the point of disposal, improving recycling outcomes while reducing contamination and operational issues.

The installation comprises 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes servicing 29 residential levels, including the mezzanine and upper apartment floors. Both waste and recycling chutes run straight up and down without offsets, providing smooth vertical transfer and reducing the risk of blockages in a high‑use environment.

Fire‑rated, self‑closing waste and recycling intake doors are installed on all active levels, with clear signage at each intake indicating correct system use. Selected levels were designed without intake doors to suit the building layout and operational requirements, while maintaining overall system continuity and compliance.

At the top of each chute, dedicated vent and wash‑down cleaning systems provide airflow and automated internal cleaning. These systems help control odours, maintain hygiene, and protect the long‑term performance of the chute infrastructure across all levels.

At ground level, waste and recycling discharge through Type A bottom discharge systems into 1100L mobile garbage bins. Plastic strip curtains were installed over each discharge point to assist with odour containment and dust control, supporting cleaner and safer waste rooms.

An acoustic lagging upgrade, equivalent to Vibralag or Pyrotek Soundlag, was applied across 30 levels to reduce noise transmission and enhance resident amenity. The completed residential waste and recycling chute solution delivers a reliable, low‑maintenance system that supports the ongoing operation of a high‑rise residential building in one of Melbourne’s fastest‑growing precincts.
