Dual Waste and Recycling Chute System Installation

Ivanhoe Estate Building C1 is a social and affordable housing development by Richard Crookes Construction, located on Herring Road, Macquarie Park NSW, forming part of the broader Midtown Macquarie Park urban renewal precinct approximately 12km from the Sydney CBD. The development comprises four residential cores of varying heights, each requiring an individually configured dual waste and recycling chute system to suit its specific layout, level count, and discharge arrangement.

Elephants Foot Chute Solutions was engaged to supply and install four dual waste and recycling chute systems across Buildings C1.1, C1.2, C1.3, and C1.4, providing a combined total of 152 chute pipe levels and 138 fire-rated self-closing intake doors across all operational levels. Bypass configurations and chute offsets were incorporated across all four cores at lower levels to route the chutes through the building layout to the discharge rooms at basement 3, with shop drawings confirmed for each offset design prior to installation.

Buildings C1.1 and C1.3 each incorporate two bypass configurations and two chute offsets at basement 2 level. Building C1.2 incorporates six bypass configurations across basement 2, basement 1, and lower ground levels, with eight chute offsets across basement 2 through upper ground level. Building C1.4 incorporates four bypass configurations and four chute offsets across basement 2 and basement 1 levels. All four discharge rooms are located at basement 3, each fitted with a linear track system without compactor to suit a 1,100L waste MGB and a linear track system without compactor to suit a 660L recycling MGB.

Vent and wash-down cleaning systems were installed at the top of all eight chute shafts across all four cores, discharging through to open air on the level above to support airflow management, odour control, and internal chute hygiene throughout each shaft.

The completed installation provides Richard Crookes Construction with a durable, compliant, and comprehensively configured waste and recycling infrastructure solution suited to the scale and complexity of Ivanhoe Estate Building C1, supporting efficient building operations and reliable long-term performance across all four cores within the Midtown Macquarie Park urban renewal precinct.
