Dual Waste and Recycling Chute System Installation

Emporium Apartments is a build-to-rent mixed-use residential development by Empire Global Constructions, located at 305 Anketell Street, Greenway ACT, within the Tuggeranong Town Centre in South Canberra. The development’s two-core configuration required individually configured dual waste and recycling chute systems for each waste room, with bespoke solutions to address site-specific installation constraints across both buildings.

Elephants Foot Chute Solutions was engaged to supply and install two dual waste and recycling chute systems across Waste Rooms 1 and 2, providing a combined total of 30 chute pipe levels and 26 fire-rated self-closing intake doors across all operational levels. Bypass configurations were incorporated at ground floor in both waste rooms for both waste and recycling streams, with chute offsets incorporated at ground floor in Waste Room 1 to route both chutes to the discharge room at basement 1.

Wall thicknesses across both waste rooms did not conform to standard installation requirements, requiring the design, manufacture, and installation of custom hopper door extensions. Fourteen hopper door extensions were supplied and installed across Waste Room 1 and 12 across Waste Room 2, ensuring compliant and correctly configured intake door installations throughout both cores. Reusable slab penetration ring formers were also supplied to support accurate chute penetration installation within the building structure.

Each waste room discharges to basement 1, with four Type A bottom discharge doors installed across both cores, each configured to suit the selected MGB for the waste and recycling streams respectively. Vent and wash-down cleaning systems were installed at the top of all four chute shafts across both waste rooms, discharging through to open air on the level above to support airflow management, odour control, and internal chute hygiene throughout each shaft.

The completed installation provides Empire Global Constructions with a durable, compliant, and technically considered waste and recycling infrastructure solution suited to the scale and operational demands of Emporium Apartments, supporting reliable long-term performance within a build-to-rent residential environment in the Tuggeranong Town Centre.
