Dual Waste and Recycling Chute System Installation

Emerald Place is a luxury mixed-use residential development by Hamilton and Marino Constructions, located at 182-200 Clarendon Street, South Melbourne VIC, on the corner of Clarendon and York Streets within Melbourne’s South Melbourne Market precinct. Developed by Lowe Living in partnership with lNT.RE and designed by Woods Bagot Architects with Acre as landscape architect, the development required a compliant and acoustically considered waste management solution suited to its premium residential character.

Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a dual waste and recycling chute system across 18 chute pipe levels, with six fire-rated self-closing waste intake doors and six recycling intake doors installed across operational levels. Bypass configurations were incorporated at ground floor, level 1, and level 2 for both streams. The discharge room is located at basement 1, fitted with minor offset discharge configurations for both waste and recycling streams to suit 1,100L MGBs.

Premium acoustic lagging using 55mm thick 32kg/m3 foil-faced glass-wool insulation blanket rated R1.3 was applied to all 18 chute pipe sections across both shafts, minimising noise transmission through the building structure. Odour relief vent and flushing spray systems were installed at the top of both chute shafts to support airflow management, odour control, and internal chute hygiene. An annual maintenance service was also included, with a minimum of one attendance per year to support the ongoing performance of the system.
