BHB Ormond Road is a social housing development by Alchemy Construct, located at 120 and 150 Ormond Road, Thomson, East Geelong VIC, delivered as part of the Victorian Government’s Big Housing Build initiative. The development comprises three residential buildings each requiring a dual waste and recycling chute system, with enhanced acoustic specifications to suit the residential environment and the requirements of a government-delivered social housing project.
Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed three dual waste and recycling chute systems across Buildings A, B, and C, providing a combined total of 12 chute pipe sections and 12 fire-rated self-closing intake doors across all operational levels. Acoustic lagging using a 25mm thick 5kg/m2 barrier bonded to convoluted foam was applied to all 12 chute pipe sections across all three buildings, and Embelton NRD isolation mounts were installed to ceiling-mounted equipment in all three discharge rooms to meet the acoustic specification.
Each building services two chute pipe levels, with all three discharge rooms located at ground level and fitted with minor offset discharge configurations for both waste and recycling streams. Building A discharges to suit 1,100L MGBs for both streams, while Buildings B and C discharge to suit 660L MGBs. Odour relief vent and flushing spray systems were installed at the top of all six chute shafts to support airflow management, odour control, and internal chute hygiene throughout each building.
The completed installation provides Alchemy Construct with a durable, compliant, and acoustically considered waste and recycling infrastructure solution suited to the operational demands of BHB Ormond Road, supporting efficient building operations across all three buildings within this Big Housing Build social housing development in East Geelong.
