Dual Waste and Recycling Chute System Installation

Assemble TSK is a purpose-built build-to-rent-to-own residential development by Hacer Group, located at 15 Thompson Street, Kensington VIC, approximately 3km from Melbourne’s CBD. The development required a practical and compliant waste management solution capable of servicing two building cores across multiple levels, with integrated acoustic treatment to suit the building’s residential density and occupancy requirements.

Elephants Foot Chute Solutions was engaged to supply and install two dual waste and recycling chute systems across Lift 1 (North) and Lift 2 (South), each configured to suit the layout and occupancy requirements of its respective core. The systems provide efficient waste and recycling transfer across a combined 32 chute pipe levels, reducing manual handling for building management and supporting well-organised waste room operations throughout the development.

Each core services eight waste and eight recycling chute pipe levels, with 16 fire-rated self-closing intake doors installed across all operational levels in each core. Two chute offsets through the wall were incorporated at basement 1 in each core to route the chutes to their respective discharge rooms, with all discharge rooms located at basement level. Each core is fitted with two Type A bottom discharge doors to suit 1,100L MGBs for the waste and recycling streams respectively.

Acoustic lagging using a 25mm thick 5kg/m2 barrier was applied to chute pipe sections across both cores, minimising noise transmission through the building structure and supporting a comfortable living environment for residents within a high-density residential setting.

Vent and wash-down cleaning systems were installed at the top of all four chute shafts across both cores, discharging through to roof level above to support airflow management, odour control, and internal chute hygiene throughout the full height of each shaft.

The completed installation provides Hacer Group with a durable, compliant, and acoustically considered waste and recycling infrastructure solution suited to the scale and operational demands of Assemble TSK, supporting reliable long-term performance across both building cores within Melbourne’s inner north.
