Located within an established industrial‑to‑residential transition zone, the project required a practical and compliant waste management solution capable of supporting daily residential use while ensuring safety, hygiene, and long‑term building performance.

To meet these requirements, Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed two independent dual waste and recycling chute systems, configured to service Building A and Building B. This approach provides consistent waste handling across the development while maintaining operational efficiency and regulatory compliance.

Both systems incorporate 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes with straight vertical runs and engineered minor offsets at discharge level to suit the building layout. The simplified chute configuration reduces blockages, supports smooth material flow, and assists with long‑term maintenance.

Fire‑rated, self‑closing waste and recycling chute intake doors are installed on all active levels, with upgraded smoke seals to improve fire and smoke separation performance. Clear signage at each intake supports correct resident use and helps minimise contamination between waste streams.

At the top of each chute, dedicated odour relief vent and wash‑down cleaning systems provide continuous airflow and automated internal cleaning. These systems improve hygiene, assist with odour control, and protect the internal condition of the chute over the life of the building.

At Level 01 discharge rooms, waste and recycling are transferred via Type A bottom discharge systems with minor offsets into 660L mobile garbage bins. Custom support brackets were incorporated to achieve compliant fixing and alignment. The completed installation integrates seamlessly with the building’s residential waste management system, delivering a reliable, low‑maintenance solution suited to medium‑density residential living in Melbourne’s inner west.
