
250 Albert Street is a residential development delivered by Cobild within one of Melbourne’s most established inner‑city precincts. Located close to the CBD, medical precincts, and key public transport corridors, the project required a compliant and reliable waste management solution capable of supporting daily residential use while protecting long‑term building value.
To meet these requirements, Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a fully integrated dual waste and recycling chute system designed for medium to high density residential environments. The system incorporates 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes servicing Levels 1 to 6, providing smooth vertical waste transfer while reducing the risk of blockages and operational issues.
Separate fire rated, self‑closing intake doors are installed for both waste and recycling on each active level. This allows residents to correctly separate materials at the point of disposal while maintaining fire and smoke compartmentation in accordance with building compliance requirements. Clear signage on each hopper further supports correct use and improved recycling outcomes.
At roof level, odour relief venting and flushing spray systems provide airflow and automated internal chute cleaning, helping control odours, maintain hygiene, and protect long‑term system performance. At ground level, waste and recycling are discharged through Type A bottom discharge units with minor offsets, directing waste into 1100L bins and recycling into 660L bins for efficient collection.
The completed waste chute system provides a low‑maintenance, future‑ready solution that reduces operational risk, improves recycling performance, and supports the ongoing performance of a high quality inner‑city residential building.
