Operational Waste Management Plan for Canberra Hospital Expansion

Elephants Foot Consulting was engaged to prepare an Operational Waste Management Plan (OWMP) for the Canberra Hospital Expansion, one of the ACT’s largest healthcare infrastructure projects. The expansion will deliver new state-of-the-art facilities, including an emergency department, ICU, and operating theatres, to meet the growing needs of the community.

Our plan outlined strategies for the effective collection, segregation, storage, and movement of operational waste streams generated within the hospital. This included general waste, recyclables, clinical waste, and organics. We ensured compliance with ACT Government waste guidelines and incorporated solutions that improve efficiency, reduce risks for hospital staff and patients, and support high recycling and recovery outcomes.
