HammondCare The Glens Waste & Linen Chute Systems

HammondCare The Glens is a purpose‑built residential aged care development delivered by Total Construction in Melbourne’s south‑east. Designed to support long‑term care within a healthcare environment, the facility required safe, compliant, and accessible waste handling infrastructure tailored to aged care operations where hygiene, infection control, and staff safety are critical priorities.

To meet these requirements, Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed dedicated waste management chute systems designed specifically for healthcare and aged care environments. The installation includes two 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes, providing reliable and durable vertical transfer for both general waste and linen streams.

The waste chute system services Level 01 and incorporates a fire‑rated, self‑closing waste chute intake door, ensuring compliant and secure disposal while maintaining building fire safety standards. An integrated vent and wash‑down cleaning system is installed to support airflow, odour management, and internal chute hygiene—essential for maintaining infection control standards within aged care settings. At ground level, waste discharges via a minor‑offset arrangement designed to suit operational bin handling requirements.

In parallel, a dedicated linen chute system was installed to support safe and efficient handling of soiled laundry. The linen chute includes a fire‑rated, self‑closing intake door and its own vent and wash‑down system to ensure hygienic operation. Discharge to ground level occurs via a minor‑offset configuration designed to suit trolley handling, helping reduce manual handling risks for staff.

Together, the waste and linen installations form an integrated part of the facility’s broader aged care waste management infrastructure, supporting hygiene compliance, staff safety, and efficient daily operations within a sensitive healthcare environment.
