A’Beckett St Student Accommodation is a high rise residential development located in the centre of Melbourne’s CBD, purpose designed to support high occupancy student living within a compact urban footprint. Delivered by Crema Construction, the project required a high capacity, compliant waste infrastructure solution capable of servicing multiple levels efficiently while maintaining safe discharge room operations at ground level.
Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a dual 510mm galvanised steel waste chute system servicing 28 levels, including the roof terrace. The system provides dedicated waste and recycling streams to support effective separation and consistent daily throughput in a high density student accommodation environment.
To address structural and penetration constraints within the vertical core, custom fabricated support brackets were designed and installed across all levels to achieve compliant fixing and long term structural integrity. A minor chute offset at ground level was incorporated to align with the discharge room layout while maintaining a predominantly straight vertical run to optimise waste flow efficiency.
Both chutes terminate in Type A bottom discharge doors configured to suit 1100L MGBs, supporting high volume waste handling demands. Integrated vent and wash‑down cleaning systems were installed at roof level to ensure airflow control, odour management and ongoing hygiene performance.
A ceiling mounted integrated waste bin compactor (2:1 ratio) was also incorporated within the discharge area to reduce bin changeover frequency, improve waste density, and enhance operational efficiency for building management.
The completed installation delivers a durable, compliant and high throughput waste solution tailored to the operational demands of a Melbourne CBD student accommodation tower, supporting Crema Construction with a practical, low maintenance and future ready waste management system.
