Dual Waste and Recycling Chute System Installation

41 George Street is Australia’s largest office-to-student accommodation conversion, constructed by J Hutchinson for Dexus and Marquette Properties, located in the heart of Brisbane’s CBD. The 27-storey building, formerly known as Mineral House, has been transformed into a purpose-built student accommodation facility.

Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a dual chute system for J Hutchinson, servicing chute pipe levels from level 01 to level 26, with acoustic lagging fitted to all chute sections to manage noise transfer throughout the converted high-rise. Each servicing level is fitted with fire-rated self-closing intake doors across both waste and recycling streams, with odour relief vent and flushing spray points fitted at the top level of the chute.

At the discharge room on ground level, a carousel compactor system manages the waste stream, while a linear system serves the recycling stream to a 1100L MGB, each with a medium offset configuration. An EF 300 cardboard baler was also supplied to support recycling operations within the building.

The completed installation gives 41 George Street a compliant, technology-enabled waste and recycling solution suited to a high-density student accommodation environment, reducing manual handling for building management across all 26 levels.
