Elephants Foot Chute Solutions partnered with Hacer Group to supply and install a dual chute system for 17 Spring Street, a 34-storey luxury residential tower in Melbourne’s east end. Designed by Bates Smart, the tower comprises 73 premium apartments and replaces the former Mercure Melbourne Treasury Gardens hotel.
The installation includes purpose-built 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes for both waste and recycling, each fitted with self-closing chute doors to maintain hygiene and safety. Type A bottom discharge chutes and stand-alone compactors were supplied for 1100L MGB bins, allowing efficient collection and disposal. Integrated vent and wash-down systems ensure odour management and easy cleaning of the top levels. Plastic strip curtains were installed over the bottom chutes for added operational hygiene, and signage reminds residents that glass bottles are not to be placed in the chutes.
The system is designed to handle major offsets on Level 00 Upper, while all other chutes run straight up and down, providing a reliable, user-friendly waste and recycling solution for Melbourne’s premium residential apartments.
