Multi Building Waste & Recycling Chute Infrastructure

Woden Green is a multi residential development located in the Woden Town Centre precinct in Phillip, Canberra. Delivered by Hindmarsh Construction Australia, the project forms part of the continued revitalisation of the Woden district, delivering modern apartment living within a well‑connected urban environment designed to support long‑term functionality and efficient building operations.

Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed multiple 510mm galvanised steel dual waste and recycling chute systems across Buildings A, B and C within the development. The installation was designed to support high residential occupancy while enabling efficient waste transfer between levels and organised waste room operations.

Across the project, the chute infrastructure services 82 operational waste and recycling intake levels distributed across several building cores. Fire‑rated self‑closing intake doors were installed at each service level to ensure safe resident waste disposal while maintaining compliance with Australian building standards.

Each chute system runs vertically through the building cores to optimise gravity waste flow and reduce long‑term maintenance requirements. Custom chute offsets were designed and installed at Level 1 across the three buildings to accommodate structural constraints while maintaining efficient chute alignment.

The systems also incorporate acoustic lagging to the chute sections to minimise operational noise transfer within the buildings. Intake doors were upgraded with medium‑temperature smoke seals to further enhance fire safety performance and compliance.

Integrated vent and wash‑down cleaning systems were installed above the top service levels to support airflow management, odour control, and hygiene performance within the chute shafts. Additional odour management units were installed within the discharge rooms to further improve environmental conditions within the waste handling areas.

Waste and recycling streams discharge to basement waste rooms through dedicated linear track bin handling systems configured to suit 1100L MGB bins, enabling organised bin movement and efficient waste collection operations for building management.

The completed installation provides Hindmarsh Construction Australia with a robust and compliant waste infrastructure solution designed to support high density residential living while improving waste handling efficiency and maintaining reliable long‑term system performance.
