Multi Core Waste & Recycling Chute Systems

St Clare Retirement Living is a purpose‑built retirement living development located in the established suburb of Kew in Melbourne’s inner east. Delivered by Hacer Australia, the project provides high quality accommodation designed to support resident wellbeing, accessibility, and long‑term building functionality within a carefully planned residential care environment.

Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a comprehensive waste management infrastructure system incorporating multiple waste and recycling chute systems across several building cores within the development. The installation was designed to support efficient internal waste handling while reducing manual transport requirements for staff and maintaining organised waste room operations.

Across the project, the system services 41 chute pipe levels and 41 operational waste and recycling intake points distributed across four residential cores. Fire‑rated self‑closing intake doors were installed at each level to ensure safe operation and compliance with Australian building standards within the retirement living environment.

To minimise operational noise transmission within resident areas, selected chute sections were upgraded with acoustic lagging using a high‑density barrier bonded to convoluted foam. This acoustic treatment helps maintain a quieter building environment while ensuring reliable waste transfer performance.

Integrated vent and wash‑down cleaning systems were installed above service levels to support airflow management, odour control, and internal chute hygiene. Additional odour relief vents ensure effective ventilation throughout the chute shafts.

Waste and recycling streams discharge to the Basement 1 waste management area through minor offset discharge configurations designed to suit 1100L MGB bins. The project also incorporates an additional eDiverter chute system, allowing both waste and recycling streams to be separated automatically within a single chute line where required.

Reusable slab penetration ring formers were supplied to support efficient installation of the chute penetrations while maintaining structural accuracy throughout the building structure.
