Lumina is a medium‑density residential development delivered by Alliance Living in Sydney’s north‑west growth corridor. Positioned close to rail, retail, and local services, the building required a reliable and efficient waste management solution capable of supporting daily residential use while maintaining long‑term operational performance.
To meet these requirements, Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a centralised dual waste and recycling chute system designed to provide safe, hygienic, and intuitive waste handling for residents across all levels of the building.
The system comprises 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes servicing ten residential levels, with separate waste and recycling streams operating in parallel. The straight‑through vertical chute configuration eliminates offsets and transfer points, reducing the risk of blockages and simplifying long‑term maintenance.
Fire‑rated, self‑closing waste and recycling intake doors are installed on every active level, providing safe and convenient access for residents while maintaining fire and smoke separation between floors. Clear signage at each intake door supports correct waste separation and improves recycling outcomes.
At the top of each chute, dedicated venting and wash‑down cleaning systems provide continuous airflow and automated internal cleaning, assisting with odour control, hygiene, and system longevity.
At Basement 1, waste and recycling are discharged via separate Type A bottom discharge units into 1100L mobile garbage bins. Plastic strip curtains were installed at the discharge points to assist with containment and cleanliness. The completed installation delivers a robust, low‑maintenance waste solution well suited to medium‑density apartment living.
