
M333, delivered by Balmain and Co in Melbourne’s inner south corridor, is a medium to high‑density residential development positioned along a major arterial route close to transport, retail, and lifestyle precincts. The project required a centralised waste and recycling solution capable of supporting daily resident volumes while maintaining acoustic performance and long‑term operational reliability within an urban setting.
Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed a dual residential waste chute system incorporating 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes servicing Ground through Level 6. Dedicated waste and recycling streams were provided to ensure clear material separation and improved sustainability outcomes across the building.
To meet project acoustic requirements, all chute sections were upgraded with Thermotec Nuwrap 5 acoustic lagging, and Embelton NRD isolation mounts were installed to ceiling‑mounted discharge room equipment. These measures assist in reducing operational noise transmission and vibration within the building structure, supporting resident comfort and compliance with acoustic specifications.
Fire‑rated, self‑closing intake doors were installed at each level to provide safe and compliant user access. Integrated vent and wash‑down cleaning systems were incorporated at the uppermost level to maintain airflow performance, assist with odour management, and support long‑term system hygiene.
At Basement Level 01, minor offset discharge configurations were installed for both waste and recycling streams to suit 660L MGBs, optimising collection efficiency and back‑of‑house handling. Reusable slab penetration ring formers were also supplied to support accurate slab formation and streamlined installation coordination.
The completed system delivers durable, acoustically considered vertical waste transfer infrastructure tailored to high‑density apartment living in Melbourne’s inner south.
