eDiverter Waste and Recycling Chute System Installation

Nine by Mirvac is a landmark master-planned residential development by Mirvac Constructions, located on Artarmon Road, Willoughby NSW, on the former Channel Nine television studios and headquarters approximately 6km north of the Sydney CBD. The precinct-scale development spans two construction stages across multiple residential buildings, requiring a coordinated and individually configured waste management solution for each building core throughout the estate.

Elephants Foot Chute Solutions was engaged to supply and install 15 eDiverter chute systems across Stage 1 and Stage 2, servicing a combined total of 85 chute pipe levels and 83 fire-rated self-closing eDiverter intake doors across all operational levels. Two bypass configurations were incorporated in Stage 2 buildings where intake access was not required at certain levels. Each system manages both waste and recycling streams through a single chute line, with an automated diverter at the base directing material to the correct bin.

Stage 1 encompasses six building cores across Buildings B, E, F, G, and J, with a combined total of 39 chute pipe levels. Buildings E and F are each fitted with a linear compactor system and a linear track system without compactor to suit separate waste and recycling streams at 1,100L MGB, while Buildings B Core 1, B Core 2, G, and J are each fitted with an integrated single bin compactor to suit a 1,100L waste MGB. Custom chute support brackets were fabricated and installed at every chute pipe level across all six Stage 1 buildings, totalling 39 brackets, to address oversized slab penetrations that did not conform to standard installation requirements.

Stage 2 encompasses nine building cores across Buildings A, C, D, H, and K, with a combined total of 46 chute pipe levels. All nine Stage 2 cores are fitted with integrated single bin compactors to suit 1,100L waste MGBs. Stage 1 discharge rooms are located at basement 1, while Stage 2 discharge rooms are located at level 1, with the exception of Building K which discharges to basement 1. All 15 systems are fitted with eDiverter discharge systems configured to suit 1,100L MGBs.

Vent and wash-down cleaning systems were installed at the top of all 15 chute shafts across both stages, discharging through to open air on the level above to support airflow management, odour control, and internal chute hygiene throughout the full height of each shaft.

The completed installation provides Mirvac Constructions with a durable, compliant, and comprehensively configured waste management solution suited to the scale and complexity of Nine by Mirvac, supporting efficient building operations and reliable long-term performance across all 15 building cores within one of Sydney’s most significant residential precincts.
