Lusher is a social and community housing development by Ironside, located at 3-9 Lusher Road, Croydon VIC, within Melbourne’s City of Maroondah in the eastern suburbs. The development comprises three building cores each requiring a dual waste and recycling chute system, with enhanced acoustic and hygiene specifications to support the comfort and wellbeing of residents within a community housing environment.
Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and installed three dual waste and recycling chute systems across Building 1, Building 2 West, and Building 2 East, providing a combined total of 24 chute pipe levels. All 24 fire-rated self-closing intake doors received medium temperature smoke seal upgrades, and acoustic lagging equivalent to Soundlag 4525C was applied to chute pipe sections across all three buildings to minimise noise transmission.
Each building services four waste and four recycling chute pipe levels, with Type A bottom discharge doors installed for both streams in each building, all configured to suit 1,100L MGBs. Building 1 discharges to basement 1, while Buildings 2 West and 2 East discharge to lower ground level. An EF Neutralizer odour management unit was installed in the discharge room of each building to support ongoing odour control. Reusable slab penetration ring formers were also supplied to support accurate chute penetration installation across the development.
Vent and wash-down cleaning systems were installed at the top of all six chute shafts, discharging through to roof level above to support airflow management, odour control, and internal chute hygiene throughout each shaft.
The completed installation provides Ironside with a durable, compliant, and acoustically considered waste and recycling infrastructure solution suited to the operational demands of Lusher, supporting efficient building operations and a comfortable environment for residents within Melbourne’s City of Maroondah.
