Arcade Apartments is a boutique residential development by Valeo Construction, located at 393-397 Burwood Road, Hawthorn VIC, within Melbourne’s City of Boroondara. The development required a practical and compliant waste management solution providing separate waste and recycling streams to support efficient building operations and reduce manual handling for building management across multiple levels.
Elephants Foot Chute Solutions was engaged to supply and install a dual waste and recycling chute system tailored to the building’s vertical layout and occupancy requirements. The system provides efficient waste and recycling transfer across 10 chute pipe levels per stream, reducing manual handling for building management and supporting well-organised waste room operations throughout the development.
Ten fire-rated self-closing waste intake doors and 10 recycling intake doors were installed across all operational levels, with signage fitted to each door to support correct use by residents. Both chute shafts run straight up and down throughout the building, with the discharge room located at ground level.
The discharge room is fitted with two Type A bottom discharge doors, with the waste stream configured to suit a 1,100L MGB and the recycling stream configured to suit a 660L MGB. Vent and wash-down cleaning systems were installed at the top of both chute shafts, discharging through to roof level above to support airflow management, odour control, and internal chute hygiene throughout both shafts.
The completed installation provides Valeo Construction with a durable and compliant waste and recycling infrastructure solution suited to the scale and character of Arcade Apartments, supporting reliable long-term performance and efficient building operations within Melbourne’s City of Boroondara.
