Pathways Residences Longueville is a residential aged care development delivered by Hansen Yuncken on Sydney’s Lower North Shore. Designed to support long‑term care and independent living within a landscaped, community‑focused setting, the facility required a waste and linen handling solution prioritising hygiene, accessibility, and staff safety within a healthcare environment.
To meet these requirements, Elephants Foot Chute Solutions supplied and upgraded a dedicated linen chute system incorporating SMART CHUTE functionality. The system includes 510mm galvanised steel chute pipes servicing Levels 2, 3, 5, and 6, with a bypass at Level 4 to suit the building layout. Fire‑rated, self‑closing linen intake doors are installed at each operational level, supporting compliant and safe linen disposal procedures in accordance with healthcare facility standards.
The SMART CHUTE upgrade introduces integrated control and monitoring via a dedicated HMI control box located in the discharge room. The system provides real‑time status indication for “in‑use” conditions, open doors, full trolley alerts, and system faults. Electronic locking functionality ensures controlled access to intake doors, while the interlocking door function permits only one intake door to open at any given time—minimising misuse risk and supporting infection control protocols.
A BMS and security integration upgrade was incorporated through the addition of dry contact relays within the control box, enabling connectivity with the building’s security contractor systems. This configuration allows authorised access via card readers (supplied by others), with the EF control system managing intake door unlocking logic to ensure no other doors are open before granting access. Cabling, electric strikes compatible with the certified chute door system, and programming for full system functionality were included within the Elephants Foot scope.
An integrated vent and wash‑down cleaning system is installed at Level 6 to maintain airflow, internal hygiene, and odour control. Linen discharges at Level 1 via a minor‑offset configuration designed to suit the selected linen trolley, supporting safe and efficient staff handling.
Together, the installation forms part of the facility’s broader healthcare waste and linen management infrastructure, delivering a compliant, secure, and future‑ready solution tailored to the operational needs of aged care living.
